Amaravati, February 5, 2025: The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a significant step in fast-tracking the investigation into the liquor scam that allegedly took place during the YSR Congress Party's (YSRCP) tenure.
The government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to expedite the probe into the financial irregularities within the AP State Beverages Corporation from 2019 to 2024.
As per the orders issued by the government, Vijayawada Police Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu has been appointed as the SIT chief. The team includes SP Subbarayudu, Additional SP Kolli Srinivas, R. Srihari Babu, DSP P. Srinivas, and Circle Inspectors K. Shivaji and Ch. Naga Srinivas.
Previously, the AP CID (Crime Investigation Department) registered a case regarding the alleged misappropriation of funds within the corporation. The Director General of Police (DGP) had recommended forming an SIT to accelerate the inquiry, following which the coalition government approved the decision.
The Excise Department has been directed to provide all relevant reports to the SIT, while the SIT must submit a progress report every 15 days. The government has also instructed that the investigation be concluded at the earliest and the findings be reported to the CID Director General for further action.
