Journalist Kommineni Arrested Over Remarks

Sakshi TV anchor Kommineni Srinivasa Rao was arrested by Andhra Pradesh police at his residence in Hyderabad’s Journalist Colony. The arrest follows a case registered against him at the Tullur police station in Guntur district, related to alleged derogatory comments made during a televised discussion.

According to police sources, Kommineni was taken into custody in connection with a complaint filed by Rajdhani farmers, women from the Amaravati region, and Kambhampati Sirisha, Director of the Andhra Pradesh Madiga Corporation. The complaint alleges that Kommineni made objectionable remarks during a Sakshi TV panel discussion that insulted Dalit women from the Tadikonda SC Reserve constituency.

The police have booked Kommineni under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint claims that his statements were not only inappropriate but also targeted marginalized women in a sensitive political context.

In addition to Kommineni, a case has also been registered against fellow journalist Krishnam Raju and Sakshi TV’s management. Authorities have stated that their involvement is being investigated based on the content aired during the program.

Following the arrest, Kommineni is being transported to Andhra Pradesh for further questioning and legal proceedings. Meanwhile, sources report that a residence linked to the case, located in Ayodhyanagar Colony, Vijayawada, has been locked, indicating possible further investigation.

The arrest has stirred debate within media and political circles, with some calling it an attack on press freedom, while others emphasize the need for accountability, especially when media content causes offense or spreads harmful narratives.

As the investigation unfolds, all eyes are on how the state handles the legal and political implications of this high-profile arrest involving a prominent media figure.
