Vijayawada, August 13, 2025 – Manipal Hospital Vijayawada organized an organ donation awareness drive at VR Siddhartha University, Kanuru, Vijayawada. Around 2,000 students were present at the session. It featured insightful talks by Dr. Rajesh Bathini, Consultant - Medical Gastroenterology, Manipal Hospital Vijayawada, and Dr. Hari Prasad N, Consultant - Urology & Renal Transplant Surgeon, Manipal Hospital Vijayawada. Dr. Utham Sharma, Medical Superintendent were also present during the session, lending his support to the initiative. It was followed by a pledge ceremony where students committed to supporting the cause of organ donation. Mr A Mohan, Joint Transport Commissioner in the Andhra Pradesh Transport Department was the chief guest.

The awareness drive aimed to dispel myths, provide factual insights, and encourage the youth to actively participate in saving lives through organ donation. With Vijayawada facing a significant gap between the demand and availability of organs for transplantation, such initiatives play a vital role in educating the younger generation. This fosters a sense of social responsibility, and promoting life-saving decisions. By engaging directly with students, the hospital hopes to inspire a long-term commitment towards this noble cause.

Dr. Rajesh Bathini said, “Organ donation is not just a medical act but a gift of life that transcends boundaries. The youth of today have the power to transform our nation’s healthcare future by embracing and advocating for this cause. Through awareness and pledges like this, we can bridge the gap between need and availability.”

The event began with an informative talk on the need for organ donation, the process involved, and the lives that can be saved through timely transplants. The doctors addressed common misconceptions, highlighted the shortage of donors in India, and encouraged students to become advocates for the cause. The session concluded with a collective pledge, where around 2,000 students vowed to support and promote organ donation, marking a significant step towards building a more aware and responsible community.

Dr. Hari Prasad N added, “Every organ donor has the potential to save multiple lives. By educating our young citizens, we are planting the seeds for a culture where organ donation becomes a norm rather than an exception. The enthusiasm and commitment shown by the students today is truly encouraging.”

Mr. J Ramanjaneya Reddy, Hospital Director, Manipal Hospital, Vijayawada said, “We believe that creating awareness about organ donation is a critical step towards building a healthier, more compassionate society. This initiative at VR Siddhartha University reflects our commitment to educating and empowering the youth to become catalysts for change. With the growing need for organ transplants in Vijayawada, such awareness efforts are essential in encouraging timely donations and saving more lives through successful transplant procedures.”
Special thanks to Dr. Rambabu K, Chief Transplant Coordinator, Jeevandan (AP), for his support and guidance in making the event a success.
The hospital reiterated its commitment to championing awareness initiatives across Andhra Pradesh, ensuring that more individuals are informed and inspired to pledge their organs. Manipal Hospital Vijayawada continues to work towards creating a compassionate society where the gift of life becomes a collective responsibility.
