Vaani Kapoor Deletes Post Promoting Film With Pakistani Hero Amid Backlash

Vaani promoted 'Abir Gulal' starring Fawad Khan

Posted on same day as Pahalgam terror attack

Netizens trolled her, forced deletion of poster

Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor faced heavy backlash from netizens after promoting her upcoming film Abir Gulal, which stars Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. The film is set to release on May 9, and promotions are currently underway.

On Tuesday, Vaani shared the movie's poster on her X (formerly Twitter) account. However, the post coincided with the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of two individuals from Andhra Pradesh, leading to widespread outrage. Many questioned Vaani’s decision to promote a film featuring a Pakistani hero amid such a sensitive national incident.

Following intense criticism, Vaani promptly deleted the promotional post. She later issued a statement expressing her condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the attack. Fawad Khan also released a statement on social media, strongly condemning the terror incident.

Meanwhile, the hashtag calling for a boycott of Abir Gulal has gained momentum on X. The film had already faced some resistance from certain groups during its announcement, and the recent developments have only intensified the opposition. Bollywood too is under fire for allowing collaborations with Pakistani artists in the current atmosphere.
