The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has formally concluded its investigation into the sensational Ayesha Meera murder case and submitted its full report in a sealed cover to the Andhra Pradesh High Court. This marks the end of a seven-year-long inquiry that was initially launched in 2018 following a re-investigation order from the court.
The case, which drew statewide attention, saw multiple twists and legal proceedings. The Andhra Pradesh High Court had first entrusted the case to a Special Investigation Team (SIT). However, citing a lack of progress and dissatisfaction with the SIT’s probe, the court later transferred the investigation to the CBI.
On Friday, the CBI presented its comprehensive findings to the High Court. The court has now directed the central agency to also submit a copy of this report to the CBI special court. The High Court has adjourned further hearing on the matter to next week.
The submission of the CBI report is seen as a significant development in a case that has long remained unresolved and has seen repeated calls for justice by the victim’s family and rights activists.
