Dasaraj Centhamil Tarun visits iconic Raan Jay Fai

Waits 30 minutes for giant crab omelette

Calls it an “unforgettable dining moment”

Indian YouTuber Dasaraj Centhamil Tarun, known for his food vlogs under DCT Eats, recently made waves online after visiting the legendary Raan Jay Fai in Bangkok to try its world-famous Michelin-starred crab omelette, priced at Rs 3,500. The experience, which he shared in a now-viral video, captured the attention of food lovers across social media.

Arriving at the iconic street-side eatery, Tarun was immediately taken aback by the highly organized chaos and massive crowd, likening the experience to checking in at an airport. He waited for 30 minutes before being served, even after securing a seat.

When the dish finally arrived, its sheer size left him astonished. “Why is it so big and so expensive?” he joked, holding the deep-fried, golden omelette bursting with tender crab meat. However, the first bite changed everything. “Each bite was an explosion of sweetness and succulence. The softest crab meat I’ve ever had, wrapped in a perfectly crisp omelette — it was pure indulgence,” he described.

The mastermind behind the dish is 81-year-old Jay Fai, who continues to single-handedly run the kitchen, donning her signature ski goggles as she braves the flames. Her tireless dedication and culinary genius earned Raan Jay Fai a Michelin star in 2018, making it the first Thai street food stall to receive the honor. She also received Asia's 50 Best Restaurants Icon Award in 2021.

Tarun concluded his experience by calling it one of his most memorable dining moments, praising not just the food but the passion behind it. The video has since resonated with global audiences, adding to the legend of Jay Fai and her remarkable crab omelette.
