Budget 2025: Goods That Will Become Cheaper and More Expensive

New Delhi, Feb 1: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2025, marking her eighth consecutive budget presentation.

The budget includes major tax exemptions and changes in import and export duties, which will significantly impact the prices of various goods. While some essential items will see a price reduction, others will become more expensive due to increased duties.

Goods That Will Become Cheaper

The government has announced reductions in customs and excise duties on several essential and high-demand goods. The following items will see a price drop:

  • Medicines for cancer and rare diseases
  • Life-saving drugs
  • Frozen fish
  • Electric vehicles (EVs)
  • Fish paste
  • Leather products
  • Carrier-grade Ethernet switches
  • 12 critical minerals
  • Open cell panels for televisions
  • Locally manufactured garments
  • Mobile phones and components
  • Medical equipment
  • LCD and LED televisions

Goods That Will Become More Expensive

Due to increased duties and revised taxation policies, the following products will see a price hike:

  • Flat panel displays
  • Cigarettes and tobacco products

The budget aims to support the Make in India initiative, boost local manufacturing, and promote affordable healthcare and sustainable transport. However, the increase in taxes on certain products, like cigarettes, is intended to curb consumption and generate additional revenue for public health programs.

With these changes, consumers can expect a shift in market prices, influencing purchasing decisions in the coming months.
