HC Dismisses Anticipatory Bail Plea of Former Minister Kakani
Setback for Kakani Govardhan Reddy in Quartz Mining Case
No protection from arrest granted by court
Quash petition hearing postponed by two weeks
Former minister and YSRCP senior leader Kakani Govardhan Reddy faced a major legal blow in the illegal quartz mining case, as the Andhra Pradesh High Court on wednesday dismissed his anticipatory bail petition. The court denied him protection from arrest in connection with the case.
The High Court made it clear that it would not interfere in the matter at this stage, thereby allowing investigative authorities to proceed. This ruling comes as a significant setback to the former minister, who had approached the court fearing imminent arrest by the police.
Kakani is accused of involvement in an unauthorized quartz mining operation, with allegations pointing to irregularities and violations of mining regulations. The case has drawn public and legal attention over the past few weeks, with calls for a thorough probe into the alleged misuse of power and mining permits.
In a separate move, Kakani also filed a quash petition seeking the cancellation of the case registered against him. However, the High Court postponed the hearing on that petition by two weeks, indicating that it will take a more detailed look into the matter before passing any further judgment.
With his anticipatory bail plea now dismissed, the legal pressure on Kakani is expected to intensify, as the investigation continues. The police may move forward with further action in the coming days, given the High Court’s refusal to grant interim protection.
