In a moment of immense pride for Andhra Pradesh, five municipal corporations from the state have received national recognition for their outstanding performance in urban cleanliness under the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 initiative. The prestigious awards were presented by Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Dr. P. Narayana, received the awards along with senior officials and civic body representatives.

Swachh Super League Awards for Top Cities

Andhra Pradesh stood out as one of the leading performers across the country with three of its cities securing Swachh Super League Awards—an honour reserved for cities that have consistently ranked among the top 20 nationally for three consecutive years.

·         Vijayawada: Honoured in the category of cities with a population above 10 lakh

·         Guntur: Recognized among cities with population between 3 to 10 lakh

·         Tirupati: Selected in the 50,000 to 3 lakh population category

These awards place Andhra Pradesh in the league of cleanest cities in India, alongside consistent national performers like Indore, Navi Mumbai, and Surat.

Ministerial-Level Recognition for GVMC and Rajahmundry

Further highlighting the state’s sanitation excellence, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) secured 1st place under the Ministerial Special Category for Safai Mitra Surakshit Shehar, a category that recognizes cities ensuring safety for sanitation workers. Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation also earned state-level recognition in the ministerial awards segment.

Vision and Support from Leadership

Dr. Narayana attributed this success to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s strong focus on cleanliness and continuous monitoring of municipal operations. He emphasized the government’s commitment to making Andhra Pradesh a “dump-yard-free” state and lauded municipal staff and sanitation workers for their efforts. The Minister urged all urban local bodies to work with renewed spirit and healthy competition to win more national accolades in future editions of Swachh Survekshan.
