Gifted ₹22 Lakh Aquarium Using Stolen Money
Bengaluru, Feb 5: In a shocking revelation, Bengaluru police uncovered that a notorious thief, identified as Panchakshari Swami (37) from Solapur, Maharashtra, spent his stolen wealth on a well-known actress, building her a ₹3 crore luxury house in Kolkata and gifting a ₹22 lakh aquarium to enhance its appeal.
Thief’s Criminal Past
According to police, Swami had been involved in thefts since childhood and turned into a professional burglar by 2009, amassing crores through his criminal activities. By 2014-15, he became acquainted with the actress and began showering her with expensive gifts.
Arrest and Shocking Confessions
Swami was first arrested in 2016 by Gujarat police in connection with a theft case and sentenced to six years in prison. After his release, he moved to Bengaluru last year and resumed his criminal activities. His arrest on January 9 for a theft in Madiwala led to revelations that stunned investigators.
Modus Operandi and Police Recovery
Swami specialized in stealing gold and silver ornaments, which he melted into gold biscuits for easy disposal. Police have recovered:
- 181 grams of gold
- 333 grams of silver
- Various equipment used for melting metals
Despite financing a lavish home for the actress, Swami resided in his mother’s house. Police also revealed that the bank had issued auction notices for the house due to unpaid loan installments.
Authorities are now hunting for an accomplice who allegedly aided Swami in his high-profile burglaries.
