Big shock for YCP in Visakhapatnam...
9 more corporators ready to join TDP
TDP floor leader Peela Srinivasa Rao completes collection of signatures from corporators on no-confidence motion
Visakhapatnam YCP has suffered another big shock. After the coalition government came to power in the state, many public representatives who won from YCP in local bodies are leaving the party and joining the TDP and Jana Sena parties in the coalition. Already, 12 corporators from Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation have left YCP and joined the coalition, while 9 more corporators are ready to join TDP today.
It is learnt that four other corporators, including Challa Rajani, Gedela Lavanya, Sunitha, Bhupathiraju Sujatha and Murru Vani, have reached Amaravati today to join the TDP. While only 29 corporators from the TDP won as corporators in the last elections, 11 from the YSRCP directly joined the TDP after the alliance came to power. While the Jana Sena Party has three corporators, seven who won as YSRCP and independents have joined the Jana Sena Party. One corporator from the BJP won, and another from the YSRCP recently joined the party. With this, the strength of the alliance has reached 52. With 9 more people joining the TDP today, the strength of the alliance will reach 61.
There are currently 97 corporators in Visakhapatnam city, out of a total of 98. The seat is vacant after Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, who won as a corporator in the last elections, was elected as an MLA. It is said that a no-confidence motion is likely to be introduced tomorrow (19th) as more corporators are joining the alliance than are required to secure the GVMC mayor's post.
The GVMC in-charge commissioner will submit a letter to Collector Harendhiraprasad with details of the alliance's strength. TDP floor leader Pila Srinivasa Rao has already completed the collection of signatures from corporators to move a no-confidence motion against the YSRCP mayor.
