Historic First: Wedding Ceremony to be Held at Rashtrapati Bhavan
New Delhi, Feb 1: For the first time in history, the Rashtrapati Bhavan is set to host a wedding ceremony, marking a historic and unprecedented event.
President Droupadi Murmu has granted special permission for the wedding of Poonam Gupta, an Assistant Commandant in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Personal Security Officer (PSO) to the President.
The wedding ceremony will take place on February 12 at the Mother Teresa Crown Complex within Rashtrapati Bhavan.
A Special Honor for CRPF Officers
Poonam Gupta will be tying the knot with Avneesh Kumar, also an Assistant Commandant in the CRPF, currently serving in Jammu and Kashmir. The President’s decision to allow the wedding inside Rashtrapati Bhavan was reportedly influenced by the couple's dedicated service in the CRPF.
Due to security concerns, the event will be a private ceremony with close family members and a limited number of guests in attendance.
Poonam Gupta’s Notable Achievements
- Hails from Madhya Pradesh and secured the 81st rank in the UPSC Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) examination in 2018.
- Recently led the CRPF women's contingent during the Republic Day celebrations.
This wedding is a historic first for Rashtrapati Bhavan, traditionally a venue for official ceremonies and state functions, making it a truly memorable event in India's history.
