Union Budget 2025: Good News for SC, ST Women

New Delhi, Feb 1: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has unveiled the Union Budget 2025, introducing a significant initiative aimed at empowering Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) women. A new term loan scheme has been launched, offering financial assistance of up to ₹2 crore to SC and ST women entrepreneurs over the next five years.

Key Highlights of the Scheme

  • Loan Amount: Up to ₹2 crore.
  • Target Beneficiaries: Five lakh SC and ST women across India.
  • Purpose: To support women in starting new businesses or expanding existing enterprises.
  • Economic Impact: The initiative aims to boost employment, promote financial inclusion, and enhance livelihoods.

Government’s Vision

During the budget presentation, Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized that the new loan scheme is part of the government's broader efforts to uplift women entrepreneurs from marginalized communities. She highlighted that economic empowerment of SC and ST women is a key focus area for the government.

"This initiative will enable thousands of women to achieve financial independence and contribute to the nation’s economy. We are committed to fostering entrepreneurship and creating sustainable job opportunities," said Sitharaman.

Wider Benefits

This scheme aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to bridge economic gaps and support women-led businesses, especially in rural and semi-urban areas. With easier access to capital, SC and ST women will have greater opportunities to start ventures, generate employment, and drive economic growth.

The initiative has been widely welcomed, with experts believing that it will help reduce financial barriers for marginalized women and promote social and economic inclusion.
