Over 900 MCC Violation Cases Registered Ahead of Delhi Polls

With just days left for the Delhi Assembly elections, authorities have registered over 900 cases of alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) since it came into effect on January 7. Officials reported intensified vigilance and crackdowns on illegal activities across the capital.

Between January 7 and January 30, Delhi Police recorded 916 cases of MCC violations. During this period, 29,172 people were arrested under various legal provisions, including the Excise Act. Law enforcement officials have also seized 426 illegal firearms, 487 cartridges, and arrested 439 individuals under the Arms Act.

Additionally, authorities confiscated 99,285 litres of illicit liquor and arrested 1,194 people in related cases. A significant amount of contraband, including 166.99 kg of drugs valued at over ₹75.4 crore and more than 1,200 banned injections, was seized, leading to 162 arrests.

Financial monitoring teams have also recovered ₹10.10 crore in unaccounted cash and 37.39 kg of silver. Police checkpoints across the city have been reinforced to prevent the smuggling of arms, liquor, and narcotics ahead of polling day.

The election for the 70-member Delhi Assembly is scheduled for February 5, with the results set to be declared on February 8.
