Union Budget 2025-26: Jairam Ramesh Slams Centre for Ignoring Andhra Pradesh
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has strongly criticized the Union Budget 2025-26, alleging that the Central government has completely ignored Andhra Pradesh while showering benefits on Bihar due to the upcoming elections in the state.
Speaking about the budget, Jairam Ramesh stated that while Bihar was granted massive financial benefits, Andhra Pradesh was severely neglected despite being a crucial supporter of the NDA government. "Why has Andhra Pradesh been left out while Bihar received massive allocations?" he questioned.
He further criticized the NDA government’s priorities, arguing that the budget was politically motivated rather than focusing on economic stability.
Concerns About the Indian Economy
Jairam Ramesh also raised four major concerns regarding the current economic situation in India:
- Stagnation in Real Wages – The growth in wages has failed to keep up with inflation, affecting the purchasing power of the common people.
- Decline in Consumer Demand – There has been a lack of growth in overall consumption, indicating a slowdown in economic activity.
- Low Private Investment – The private sector’s investment rate remains sluggish, leading to fewer job opportunities.
- Complex and Problematic GST System – The GST structure is inefficient and cumbersome, causing difficulties for businesses.
He argued that the budget failed to address these fundamental economic issues and primarily focused on short-term tax reliefs rather than making impactful long-term reforms.
“This budget offers relief only to income taxpayers, but how will it impact the overall economy? That remains to be seen,” Jairam Ramesh added.
With Andhra Pradesh receiving minimal allocations, the state’s leaders are expected to raise strong objections in the coming days.
