Telugu States Receive Record Railway Budget Allocation: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Hyderabad : The Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have received record budget allocations of ₹9,417 crore and ₹5,337 crore, respectively, for railway projects in 2025-26. Addressing a virtual press conference from Delhi on Monday, he highlighted the massive investments being made in railway infrastructure in both states.

Vaishnaw emphasized that the budget allocation for Andhra Pradesh has seen an 11-fold increase compared to the average allocation during 2009-14. He stated that a total of ₹84,559 crore is being invested in railway development projects across the state. Andhra Pradesh’s railway network is now 100% electrified, and 1,560 km of new railway track has been constructed in the past decade—more than the entire railway network of Sri Lanka.

South Central Railway (SCR) is leading in the installation of Kavach, with 1,465 km already commissioned across its jurisdiction. The minister announced a plan to deploy Kavach technology across the entire national rail network within the next six years.

Additionally, Andhra Pradesh currently operates eight Vande Bharat trains, covering 15 districts with 21 stoppages. The Amrit Bharat Express running between Malda Town and Bengaluru now includes 14 stoppages in Andhra Pradesh. Furthermore, 73 railway stations in the state are undergoing redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

For Telangana, ₹41,677 crore is being invested in railway development projects. The state has five Vande Bharat trains, covering seven districts with nine stoppages. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 40 railway stations in Telangana are being redeveloped.

The Railway Minister also announced the approval of 50 New Namo Bharat trains, 200 Vande Bharat trains, and 100 new Amrit Bharat trains, with their running schedules to be announced periodically.

A major railway modernization project is also underway, with plans to replace 7,000 km of old tracks and upgrade important sections to facilitate trains running at 160 kmph.
